The festive season is just around the corner (or already here, depending on your perspective). London is full of magic and wonder this time of year, with loads of Christmassy events to get you in the holiday spirit. Here are 5 free festive activities for all the family to enjoy.

The gorgeous Charlton Park, House and Gardens will be transformed into an enchanted winter wonderland. Explore the stunning light installations, the Christmas market, a fun fair and enjoy pop up performances from local schools and community choirs. On Sunday 1 December there will be a quiet hour from 4:30 to 5:30pm, for children and adults with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND) and sensory sensitivities.

Embark on a fabulous festive adventure to discover 12 adorable penguin sculptures throughout The City. Each penguin stands at an impressive 1.6m (5’3”) tall and is decked out in the finest festive gear. Scan QR codes to find out how you can support the WWF’s conservation efforts. You can even donate to help preserve the habitat of these fantastic animals.

What says Christmas more than a gingerbread house! Step into a sweet festive world and get a free candy cane. Plus, on Thursday 7th and Saturday 9th December, none other than Father Christmas himself will be paying a visit. Make sure you’re on his “nice” list this year!

You cannot talk about the festive season in London without talking about the word famous Christmas lights. For quaint and cosy, check out the lights of Leadenhall Market and Old Spitalfields Market. If you love your Christmas lights big and with all the trimmings, then you have to take in Regents Street and Oxford Street. Whatever you choose, you’ll be sure to leave in a festive mood.
